Yoane Wissa - knee

12 September 2025 by Thomas Anderson

Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa (29) is set to miss the Premier League match against Wolves after suffering a knee injury during DR Congo’s recent World Cup qualifier vs. Senegal.

🎙️| Eddie Howe: "Unfortunately he won't make this game. I saw him for the first time yesterday and he's feeling the effects of the injury sustained just before he came off [while on international duty]. We're going to have to see how he is."

As a result, Wissa will not make his debut for the club against Wolves. Whether he will be fit for Newcastle’s upcoming Champions League opener vs. Barcelona remains uncertain. (Source: Newcastle United)

Update 13 Saturday September 2025

🎙️| Eddie Howe: “Yoane saw a specialist again yesterday for a check-up on his knee. We probably think now it’ll be eight weeks rather than six [from the point of the injury]. It’s no recurrence or problem, just slightly longer.” (Source: Hayters)

Update Friday 17 October 2025

🎙️| Eddie Howe: "Yoane’s had his first time on the grass with us, which was great to see and his knee has reacted well to that work so far. It will now be a case of stepping him up gradually. I know he is desperate to get out and show his worth but it’s one step at a time now.” (Source: Newcastle United)

Update Friday 31 October 2025

🎙️| Eddie Howe: ¨It (his comeback) is definitely not West Ham( on Sunday). He's working very hard. He's on the grass. He's getting the fitness work in that he needs.

'I'd say he's not close to training with the group at the moment, not through injury but through fitness, and making sure we build his robustness. I'm not trying to be evasive. I don't know when the moment will be when he's back with the squad.¨

Update Thursday 5 November 2025

Wissa will not make his debut against former club Brentford this weekend, as his return timeline has been adjusted. Although Wissa’s knee is fully recovered and he is training well on the grass, the club prefers not to rush him back into action. Newcastle want the 29-year-old to regain full match fitness and confidence before playing, possibly through a behind-closed-doors friendly after the international break. His debut is now expected sometime shortly thereafter, once he’s physically and mentally ready to perform at his best. (Source: Craig Hope, Daily Mail)

Update Friday 7 November 2025

🎙️| Eddie Howe: ¨He's working well. He's on the grass, and he's building his fitness. The knee is feeling good, and there's no problems with that. It's more a case of looking at his fitness, sharpness. He's in a good place to kick on and push his body. We need to give him time to get robust enough and be in a position to give his best for the team.¨ (Source: Newcastle United)

Update Friday 21 November 2025

🎙️|Eddie Howe: "He's working well. He's not back training with us yet but he's close...."He's working with the sports science team and almost entering a pre-season with them currently. He's done a lot of work, he's looked good and looked better with every session...."He's close to training with us but before he gets to there it's difficult to give you a return date." Update Friday 28 November 2025

🎙️|Eddie Howe: "Yoane is doing well. He trained with us for the first time on Wednesday when we came back from Marseille. I was really pleased with how he looked. It was the first time with the group. Hopefully, he will train again today." (Source: Newscastle United)

Update Monday 1 December 2025

🎙️|Eddie Howe: ¨He's doing well. Everything is positive, but he will be back involved when we think he's able to contribute to the group and has a minimal chance of re-injury. He's still a little bit away - he's got some more work to do. Hopefully, he comes through that, and we can see him back on the pitch.¨ (Source: Newscastle United)
